Key human rights advocate Basil Fernando, Chairperson of the Asian Human Rights Commission, spoke about the Act’s origins, explaining its history and purpose in protecting human rights. Lawyer Dulan Dissanayake also shared insights into the study, showing how its findings could help strengthen the Act’s implementation.
The event is seen as a positive step in promoting human rights and securing justice for those affected by torture. Participants expressed hope for continued improvements under the Act. The next day, on October 26, Dulan Dissanayake discussed how videos by Mojo could help prevent torture, with support from the Right to Life Media Unit, which also contributed to the event.
