Stop intimidating social media users and journalists – “Journalists for Rights”

The Journalists for Rights Collective said that general public and journalists who using social media should not be arrested for an offence that can only be prevented by warning.

At the same time, they urge the authorities to stop using social medias to intimidate users, journalists and the community by using the social media as a pretext for the actions of certain social media users.

The collective supports law enforcement against counterfeit news and hate speech, but also emphasize the importance of working with the common good, without choice.

They also say that it is the responsibility of a democratic government to enforce the law equally for all without specialization.

Its further states:

The government should also take steps to increase the media literacy of all citizens and to make them aware of the ethics to be followed especially in the use of social media.
