Right to Life Human Rights Center Hosts Transformative Training of Trainers (ToT) for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists with Support from the Netherlands Embassy
On November 6th and 7th, 2024, Right to Life Human Rights Center, with the invaluable support of the Netherlands Embassy, successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) session aimed at Bolstering the Advocacy Capacities of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and journalists. Held at the picturesque Hotel Amora Lagoon in Katunayake, this session welcomed 40 dedicated participants who delved into strategic advocacy tools outlined in the “Bolstering Advocacy Capacities of Human Rights Defenders” module.
During this two-day intensive training, participants learned advocacy principles, the way to develop impactful advocacy materials, gender-sensitiity in human rights advocacy, and engaging in effective risk management. Empowered by this knowledge, the trained HRDs and journalists will, in turn, conduct 12 training sessions at the Human Rights First Aid Centers (HRFACs) across Sri Lanka. These sessions are expected to reach 180 HRDs in the coming months, significantly enhancing grassroots human rights advocacy.
In addition to spreading these advocacy skills, the newly trained HRDs will produce 36 model advocacy pieces, demonstrating innovative approaches to addressing pressing human rights challenges. We are deeply grateful to the Netherlands Embassy for their support in making this impactful training possible, and we look forward to witnessing the transformative impact of these efforts in communities across Sri Lanka.
Stay tuned for more updates as these skilled HRDs bring their advocacy projects to life in the coming months!
