Inhumane beating , fabricating false cases against four School Children by Suriyawewa Police.

On the 20th of January 2008, Inspector and some officers attached to Suriyawewa Police.
took four boys  aged 16 years and a young man   to Police custody without any reason assaulted them mercilessly with S-lon pipes and bottles , and had filed false cases.

Victims: Abeysekara Arachchilage Umesh Chaturanga ,Senarath Ratnayake,Nuwan Sanjeewa,K.G.Dinesh Madushan ,G.K.Lahiru Lakmal, all  11th year students,at Hambanthota Migahajadura Maha Vidyalaya.

Abeysekara Arachchilage Umesh Chaturanga was kept in the Suriyawewa Police Station for three days ,assaulted and  had questioned about a theft of  Television Set and some other items , from school and some other houses,that had happened in June 2007.  
He had been forced to sign some papers with some false  allegations.

K.G.Dinesh Madushan too had been  beaten and tortured,by inserting the finger in to a bottle and bending it backwards.  He too had been forced to sign some papers.  As his ear drum had been damaged he had to  take treatments from Hambanthota GeneralHospital.

The above four students have been accused of robberies  in the area and in the school.

When produced at Hambanthota Magistrates Court ,two of the students were fined Rs.Ten Thousand each and the other two  Rs,Fifty Thousand and  personal bail of One Hundred Thousand  each and has to report to Suriyawewa Police Station every Sunday of the week.

As two students could not afford to pay the fine they  were put in the remand prison with some elderly inmates. One of the students  went to the school after the holidays but the Principal  did not allow him to enter the school.   The other three students too had been informed not to attend school.
