Four Police Constables Arrested Over Death of Young Father in Wadduwa

Four police constables from the Wadduwa Police Station were arrested yesterday (12) in connection with the death of 24-year-old Samith Dilshan, a father of one from the Talpitiya area in Wadduwa.

Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manathunga, confirmed that the arrests were made by the Panadura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit. The officers in question have been suspended from their duties, and they are scheduled to be presented before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today (13).

The incident stems from Dilshan’s arrest on Monday (10) by officers from the Wadduwa Police Traffic Division over a traffic accident. He was subsequently released on bail the same day. However, after returning home, Dilshan began vomiting blood, prompting his relatives to rush him to the Panadura Base Hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, he passed away the following day (11).

A magistrate’s inquiry into the death has been conducted, and the court has ordered a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The Chief Judicial Medical Officer of the Panadura Base Hospital is expected to perform the examination.

The investigation is being led by Panadura Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nishantha Senaratne, following a complaint filed by the deceased’s wife, Roshini Lakmali, with the Panadura Senior Superintendent of Police’s office.
