Disappeared Fais, reappears after three months

On the 28th of February,48 year old Pithchai Marikkar  fais,father of two children residing at Karathive Puttalam,was abducted by an armed gang in a white colour van.


Following day  when the wife and Phais’s bother in law went to Wanathavilluwa  Police Station to make an  entry,they had  seen white colour van, parked near the Police Station  and Phais inside.  But the Wanathavilluwa Police   refused to take down the entry instead they  were threatened .

As there was no any information what so ever, regarding fais’s disappearance, there was a Petition calling for a Habeas Corpus at Puttalam High Courts  naming Attorney General,I.G.P, .Deputy I.G.P, Wyamba, S.S.P.Puttalam, A.S.P.Wanathavilluwa, Officer in Charge of Wanathavilluwa Police Station as respondents,
 

Summons were issued to the respondents on the 23rd April 2008 and  they were present at the  High Courts  on the 7th of May 2008. The  Officer in Charge of  Wanathavilluwa Police Station  presented a report on the incident to the State Counselor.

 According to report Pitchaithambi Marikkar fais was arrested on the 28th February and is being detained  at  criminal investigation  dept for further interrogation.  Also he was arrested by  Colombo Pettah Police Inspector Naotun and  a team. and not by Wanathavilluwa Police .

 He further stated that  with a directive from  the Secretary  Ministry of Defence  Phais is to be detained at the Colombo Investigation Bureau for a period of 90 days. 
As the lawyer appearing for the  petitioner requested  a copy of the directive, High Court Judge issued an order to Officer In Charge ,Criminal Investigation Bureau to  forward a copy of the directive to the Courts on the 28th May 2008. At last after two months  Relatives of fais  were able to visit fais  at the  Criminal Investigation Bereau detention center in Colombo.
