The President has appointed an Advisory Board to make recommendations and advise the President on future decisions, including the investigation, release and bail out of people on prison and detention orders in connection with terrorist activities.
The Advisory Board has been appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa under Section 13 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1979, said Hariguptha Rohanadheera, Attorney-at-Law, Director General of the Supreme Court.
The other members of the advisory board, which is chaired by former Chief Justice Ashoka de Silva, are retired High Court Judge A. that. R. Heiyanthuduwa and retired Solicitor General Suhada Gamlath.
Due to the fact that an advisory board has not been appointed for a long time, those who have been imprisoned so far have not had the opportunity to present their rights. Mr. Harigupta Rohanadheera says that with the appointment of this advisory board, the prisoners will have the opportunity to present their problems.
