The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said, that there were around 8500 child abuse complaints received last year.
Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority, Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana said, out of these cases, 235 complaints have been received regarding the use of children as labors.
He said, ‘‘we get a lot of complaints to 1929 child support service. We have received about 8500 child abuse complaints in 2019.”
The chairman made these statement in a video announcement issued last week on the International Day against child labor.
Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana said, June 12 of this year, there were about 3500 complaints of child abuse reported and out of these complaints, there are 87 complaints are use as child labors.
He added that there was a reduction in complaints about child labor during the period when quarantine was implemented throughout the country due to the coronavirus.
