07 killed in police custody over last 8 months

The police act in a very careless manner towards the suspects who are being arrested and those who are about to be arrested.

The most recent example was the Sooriyawewa police chasing a motorcycle and shooting dead two men on information that a gold necklace tied around a woman’s neck had been stolen.

The deceased have been identified as Wickramage Wasantha alias Kadawara Putha (32) of Koggalla, Amlantota and Mahesh Krishantha Epa Kankanamlage(34), Akkarakalgoda, Ambalantota.

Tissamaharama Police have informed the surrounding police that the two had robbed a woman of a gold necklace around her neck in the Debarawewa area on the 17th at around noon. According to the Police Headquarters, the two were injured and succumbed to their injuries.

The two robbed a gold necklace around her neck in the Debarawewa area on the 17th at noon. The Tissamaharama Police have informed the surrounding police and the motorcyclists were found by a jeep carrying Suriyawewa police officers. According to the Police Headquarters, the two were injured in a shootout between the two parties.

This time the motorcycle was driven by Mahesh and the rear rider was Wasantha. One of the bullets fired by the police went through Wasantha’s back and came out from Mahesh’s left chest.

According to the police, Wasantha is a suspect in a murder and both of them are involved in a number of activities such as cattle theft and necklace theft in the area.

The suspects had also fired at the police and the police jeep which had escaped from the shooting had jumped off the road and hit a tree.

However, a criminal should be shot below the knee by the police. But with the skill of the current police officers, they now have the ability to shoot suspects in a way that kills them.

But this ability of theirs is not active for people with political connections. In those cases, the shot is slightly wrong.

So far this year alone, the police have committed seven extrajudicial killings. Melan Mambulage alias Uru Juwa was shot on 05-11, Kosgoda Tharaka was shot on 05-12, 05-17 Sunil Indrajith, a port worker in Weligama, assaulted on the road, Chandran Vidushan, who was arrested in Batticaloa, fell ill and died in the cell. 06-06 Mohamed Ali fell to his death while traveling in a police jeep in Panadura. The double murder that took place in Suriyawewa is one of the seven murders.
